"I don't mean to discourage you by saying a man either has a feeling for this work, or hasn't. You fellows have been selected out of literally thousands of applicants. Your work, after a period of training, shows you have been able to survive a lot of picking; and no doubt the majority of you will eventually come out as animators. But all this training which you are going through which is absolutely essential, is not just merely being done to make it possible for you to draw another little duck or something. The work now being planned, and the work they will continue to do here, will call for men who can draw to beat hell, not just in the conventional sense, but men who have absolute control over what they are trying to do. The men who are surviving realize this. There are some of the old-timers who are good because they have developed with the industry; but that doesn't mean all the old-timers will. Even around here there are men who can't stand the gaff - men who in their time were considered sensational, but can't do things you fellows take for granted today. You don't realize the progress in the field, not only artistically, but technically, as well." - Bill Tytla
