"I don’t understand this line of thinking. It makes Black Americans look silly and weak. We KNOW where we’re from lol. I know where I’m from. I don’t need an African to tell me that. I know that I’m American. Yes, 400 years ago, my ancestors were brought to this country, but I’m not about to try and re-kindle a connection that is centuries old. It doesn’t make sense. We have grown to be a different group of people. Africans don’t want to connect because they understand that we are not the same anymore. And they’re right. We are different. We are more American than we are African at this point. Even if they did teach us all they know, then what? We still won’t be one of them. Lol. We need to be trying to find pride in who our people became in THIS country. We have become our own “tribe” here in America and we are a very unique group. Why do we keep running from that? We need to learn ALL of our history HERE in America. Not just Harriet Tubman, MLK, and Obama’s. Once we learn that history, it will make us feel empowered. It will make us feel like we know who we are because we’ll realize that we came from the most resilient, innovative group of people on Earth. Where is the pride in being a Black American? Are we perfect, no? But most can’t point a finger because they have worst shit going on in their own communities. We need to stop this begging shit and focus on US." - random Internet user (AshTheOne)
